As the Pendulum Swings - The Mind-Brain Connection by Lindsay A Brady

Finding the Connection Connecting Peace of Mind and the Joy of Consciousness

"As the Pendulum Swings" is Lindsay A. Brady's true life story. Brady is a nationally recognized clinical hypnotherapist. The book is divided into two parts. Part one tells of Brady's early interest in hypnosis and of his curiosity regarding the mind/brain connection. It talks about his search for answers to unresolved questions and about how he overcame his lack of confidence, his inhibitions, his scholastic deficits, and of his low self perception.

Brady uses sketches as illustrative case studies to provide the reader with an understanding of the process and objectives of hypnosis and hypnotherapy. He explains how "perceptionism" is the force in hypnotherapy. Brady describes how he developed an approach to help his clients overcome their self destructive behaviors.

Part two explores his theory behind hypnosis and of the influences that led to his conclusions. He discusses perception, regression, and altered consciousness. Brady shares illustrations of "conversations" held in his own "inner room." He tells of drawing on wisdom from conversations with an inner wisdom he named "Socrates."

The book includes a comprehensive appendix which with detailed information on the structure of a typical perceptionism session, perception's influence, the nervous system, and muscular behavior. He also provides insight into eliminating the difficulties of stress and anxiety. I appreciated the excellent bibliography which includes book resources and available courses.

Brady is intellectually stimulating. His writing is fast moving, and hilarious. His self deprecating humor hides his true genius. He is very entertaining, rich in profound insight and understanding in areas of consciousness and self fulfillment.

"As the Pendulum Swings" is a welcome addition to the reading list or library of all who are interested in investigating the "mind/brain" connection. Worthwhile, stimulating, and entertaining.

Flat Panel Aviation Displays For Automotive Mobile Electronics

You know those high-tech ultra cool flat panel displays being used in fighter planes, and corporate jet aircraft? Well, guess what, they are becoming more and more common in luxury cars, and the auto after market accessory business is selling them. They sure look cool, all electronic, flat panel with more features than a personal computer to boot.

Recently, I was at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas and there were several vendors that had these cool displays, as well as some quarter million dollar and up sports cars that now have custom kits for them. The flat panel displays for dash boards are customized and so far they are not that cheap, but the prices are coming down.

I suspect by the end of 2009 you'll be able to pick one up for your car for about $1200 and the center console versions are also coming down for most of the major luxury cars, and some come as standard equipment. Perhaps the coolest innovation for digital displays are the ones which project your tachometer, speed, and GPS onto the windshield and thus, you never have to look down again while driving.

For windshield holographic projection you can expect to be in it for $5,000 to $8,000 for the basic entry level units, but boy are they trick. Once you have one you'll never want anything else. And there is even a steering wheel and stick shift switch to turn it off or on. It's great for street racing, driving in heavy stop and go traffic, or fog. Please consider this technologies for your next ride.

Fun Activities That Children Can Enjoy in a Cruise

Cruises are always fun. Regardless if they are done with friends or family, they are always packed with different sights to see and things to do. One of the most sought after events in a cruise is when people get to visit different places, but for a kid, there are other things to enjoy. Although such things may be different from the preferred activities of older passengers, they are worth knowing to better understand the perspective of children.

One thing that kids enjoy in a cruise is simply lying around and being idle. Back in the city, kids are usually busy doing chores or sleeping early for class the next day. When they are in a cruise, they can relax and enjoy the comfort of not worrying about chores or class. They can do whatever they want without having to think of responsibilities to do after. This reprieve from responsibilities and chores is always a welcome vacation for any child.

Another thing is exploring the ship. Cruise ships are entirely different because there is so much space and places to go around. There are literally hundreds of rooms to explore, and one might be different from the other. Parents are usually secured that their children are safe because they are all in one ship and they allow their children to roam around. Some kids even make their own documentary or story of their exploration in the ship.

Watching shows is another activity that children can enjoy in a cruise. Many cruise lines like Carnival Cruises offer nightly shows to amuse the passengers. There are acrobats and performers that provide quality entertainment for kids and adults alike. There are also actors and comedians that give comic relief and add to the enjoyment in the cruise experience.

Of course, swimming is part of the list. Children love the water, and many cruise lines like Holland America have pools where children and adults can interact with each other. The benefits of living in luxury and freedom can be summarized in the enjoyment of swimming in a pool.

Finally, playing arcade and games in a cruise offered by lines like Princess Cruises is something that kids can really enjoy. When they have money to spend and time to spare, children get fulfillment and enjoyment in playing games in the ship. With these activities, kids can indeed have a well-spent vacation that they will remember and cherish.

My Particles Are Dancing!

" Oh sun, rise. Particles are dancing. I see headless, footless spirits dancing with ecstasy. Some are dancing at the dome of the sky. Come close. I'll tell you where they are going."

That's Rumi speaking from the book, "Crazy As We Are," written by Dr. Nevit O. Ergin.

Rumi certainly had a way with words. Dancing is the motion of freedom; it connects me to the sound of my inner music, which is constantly playing in awareness. Rumi was the original dancing mystic; he connected to his inner self by twirling, and this dance became the art of worship for his followers. Dancing has been used for centuries by cultures around the world to honor and worship a higher power.

Dancing takes me to a free zone where I can be myself and share my freedom with others. My body moves in gestures of playfulness and lighthearted actions that come from within me. I am in another place; a place of well being where there is only a feeling of my spirit gliding through the air of physical existence. Dancing is the art of lifting my ego to the door of awakening. Dancing makes me feel good; it brings out another part of me that bonds with the world around me. I am a particle of ecstasy floating with other particles that reach out and touch the stars. Dancing with the stars I become one of them in the artful movement of oneness. My consciousness is free to focus on other moments of reality and refresh my purpose of existence. The dance changes me into what I have always been but forgot I am; a dream of grand expansion.

The philosopher Friedrick Nietzsche explains dancing this way:

In song and dance man expresses himself as a member of a higher community; he has forgotten how to walk and speak and is on the way toward flying, dancing into the air. His very gestures are of enchantment... He feels himself to be a god, going about in ecstasy, exalted, like the gods beheld in his dreams... He is no longer an artist, he has become a work of art. In a paroxysm of intoxication the creative power of all nature has come to light in him at the highest rapture of the one that is All. Nature, with its true voice undissembled cries out to us: "Be as I am! I, the primordial ever-creating mother amidst the ceaseless flux of appearances, ever impelling into existence, externally finding in these transformations satisfaction."

So it is. The dance brings me the feeling of joy; it brings me the emotion of excitement; it entertains my spirit and I become who I am. The music is always playing all I need to do is hear it and get up from my seat of loneliness and dance. My dance fills the cracks in my thinking; paints my world with brightness and showers my reality with abundance.

May I have the next dance with you?

Insurance - Beware Of Universal Life

Has a life insurance agent suggested that you buy 'permanent' insurance such as Whole Life, Universal Life or Variable Universal Life? The reasons they give seem so compelling, but are they in your best interest? Here's an explanation of the basics, plus what the insurance agent isn't telling you!

There are two broad categories of life insurance--term and permanent. The basic idea behind life insurance is that if you die prematurely, there will be a pot of money there to take care of your loved ones. That pot of money is referred to as the 'death benefit'.

The cost of life insurance is based on your age, your gender and your health. The insurance company bases the premium on the risk that you will die. The older you are or the poorer your health, the more expensive the insurance will be.

The 'raw' cost of insurance goes up every year because the risk of death increases every year. Term and permanent insurance approach the payment plan differently. With level term, these increases in cost are spread out over 10, 20 or 30 years and the premium is kept the same. If you renew your policy at the end of the term, your insurance costs will increase.

With permanent insurance, your premium stays the same as long as you own the insurance, up to age 100. That way, you shouldn't be in a situation where it becomes too expensive as you age. Initially you pay more than the raw cost of insurance and that money is kept in reserve. Once the raw cost of insurance is greater than your premium, the difference is taken from the reserve.

The difference between Whole Life, Universal Life and Variable Universal Life has to do with the return you earn on that money while it's kept in reserve. Whole and universal essentially pay interest while variable universal allows you to 'invest' that reserve in mutual-fund-like accounts.

On the surface, it may seem that there shouldn't be a lot of difference between the premium on 20-year term and a universal policy with the same death benefit. But let's look at some real numbers. The annual premium for a 45-year old man in excellent health for $1,000,000 in coverage is $1400 per year for 20-year term. That man would pay roughly $8,000 a year for permanent insurance. That's right--about $6600 more every year.

That reserve in the permanent insurance can become a substantial over time, so they give you the ability to borrow the money held in reserve. This has spawned the use of permanent insurance for needs other than the death benefit, such as a way to build a retirement nest egg. The 'ploy of the day' is that you should take all the equity out of your home and put it into a universal life insurance policy because it will allow you to build your wealth more quickly. (I expose the fallacy of that argument in a future article.)

What your insurance agent isn't going to tell you is that the commission on permanent insurance can be around 70% of the first year premium and then maybe 5% a year on additional premiums. Commissions on first year term premiums can be as high as 100%. In our example above, the agent will make about $5600 on permanent versus only $1400 on the term. This higher commission is a tremendous incentive for agents to sell permanent insurance instead of term.

The result is a huge conflict of interest between the needs of the client and the desires of the agent. I would like to think that every agent will always do what's in the client's best interest, but we know that's not the case. And most agents are convinced that term is a waste of money and that permanent life insurance is the better choice. I don't.

I believe that permanent life insurance should only be used in special situations, such as to cover estate taxes due at death. I do not think it should be used when you want to provide for your family in the event of a premature death. I don't think it should be used as a way to 'build wealth' or as a type of retirement plan. In my next article, I'll explain why.

A Guide to the Low-Cost Car Audio Systems

It is not difficult to look for a car stereo player, in fact it is easy to find one but the trouble arises when you set to look for a quality stereo system within a reasonable price.

An inexpensive stereo system for a car does not suggest that it is cheap from its quality point of view but implies a reasonable buy that includes all or most of the desired features you are looking for, which will suffice the need of a car audio. You should keep in mind that the addition of features and sophisticated functions will automatically push the price up, thus crossing your budget.

Before you set out in quest of your desired car stereo player in the market, you should do a bit of homework to avoid the problems and confusion relating to your car's entertainment system. Try to acquire some knowledge on car audio systems, its type and price, which will give you an idea on what to choose from and the range of price the product is expected to vary.

You should then decide the budget of the stereo system and the features you want it to be loaded with. The car comes in with an inbuilt car stereo with additional enhancements that multiplies the performance of the system and usually it is because of the efficient accessories, that the experience seems more rich and fulfilling. In such a case, you should also consider the purchase of these additional accessories if you do not wish to compromise on the grounds of quality and experience and will certainly be priced on the higher side with additional inputs.

The steps you can take to get the right car stereo

Firstly, you need to be proficient enough to understand about the car audio brands, their respective functions and their prices and once you are successful in doing so; things will be lot easier to judge and specifically understand your necessity according to which you can fix a budget without spending more.

Search for details on the internet - articles and preview of the products will give you some idea. Consult with your friends who already own a good car audio system and further discuss with some professionals from this field who can give you the best views to decide on your product.

To categorize your search, see the list of car stereo systems whose features match with your basic requirements and have the capacity to offer reliable performance.

After the list is made, segregate them further with their respective prices and select the one that closely complies with most of the factors you have in your mind so as to pick it up for your car.

You can even consult and take feedback from the clerk of the store where you have gone to purchase the system. Inquire if they are the original dealers of the sellable product and check for the warranty scheme they are providing with the car stereo system.

Check with other dealers about the pricing of car stereo to assure yourself about the correctness of the price they are offering. If you are happy with the quoted price and it is within your budget, you can buy the item happily to fit in your car.

RSS: This Publisher's Choice

RSS is the interactive communication tool being popularized by bloggers. It is also the newest method for ezine publishers to deliver their content to the web.

RSS puts control back where it belongs. Publishers have control over their content, and subscribers have control over what they read.

This system requires that subscribers manually subscribe to the feeds they choose to read. One simply cannot just enter an email address and hit a subscribe button, attached to an autoresponder.

RSS feeds require an aggregator to read them, similarly to the way a browser reads HTML on a web page. As a result of this necessity, absolutely no one can be subscribed to a feed without consent. This makes the reader 100% responsible for the acceptance of the content to which they have subscribed. The receipt of feed content can never be unsolicited, nor can it be redundant. One cannot have more than one active subscription to a particular feed.

Rather than having to open an over-flowing mailbox, to find the information you are looking for, RSS acts as a special delivery agent, placing the content right next to your toast and coffee. Feeds are delivered straight to the desktop of the subscriber via the aggregator, providing the subscriber with freshly updated information, as it is refreshed by the source [publisher].

The subscriber receives the most recent headlines available, not a bulky periodical, and from there, can choose which articles they want to read, by clicking on that particular headline. When the reader finishes reading the feed, they just exit the program. There is nothing to store, nothing to delete.

Because RSS is set up as a dynamic, interactive system, publishers can allow, and often encourage, reader comments. This fascillitates dialogue between authors and readers, in real time. It invites the reader to express opinions, or ask questions. It provides readers with access to their mentors, that is non-invasive, yet direct.

One consideration to keep in mind is that not all RSS feeds are created equal. Not all aggregators can read all feeds. This is not a case of one size fits all. There are several different versions of RSS feeds, and they are completely different from each other, not mere upgrades of the previous.

Does this mean that one must carry several different aggregators to read various feeds? Not at all. The folks over at Quikonnex.com, Jim Gray and Carolyn Peltier, have, in their mastery of code, developed their own aggregator, QuikView, that will read all RSS feeds, regardless of version. They offer their 'channel viewer' free of charge to anyone wanting to receive information via this medium. If you want to learn about and utilize RSS in your communications, these are the people to follow. They are not your run of the mill gurus, Jim and Carolyn are the ones writing the code and manipulating it to meet their vision. Believe me, these two are not short sighted individuals either.

Quikonnex provides its members with audio and video training, weekly workshops, one-to-one live support, and a forum that is filled with knowledge. Cost of membership: FREE.

RSS is certainly the new generation in communication. There is a learning curve involved, but isn't that true of anything? We all had to learn to connect to the Internet, surf the web and use email. Learning how to use RSS is no different.

If you are currently using Internet Explorer or Netscape, you are probably wondering if Firefox is better and why is it better. In order to answer these questions it is necessary to take a look at all the benefits that Firefox offers you as a user.

First of all, Firefox is free, which is definitely a plus. It is an open-source web browser based on the Mozilla code foundation and will work for Windows, Linux and MacOS X operating systems. These are the technical specification, but what is more interesting to you as a user is that Firefox is very fast, secure, and is easy to use and navigate. The user interface is straightforward and uncomplicated.

There are numerous benefits that Firefox has. One of them is the popup blocking capability. You no longer have to see all those frustrating popup windows since the browser will take cake of them. You also don't need an alternative popup blocker program. Firefox also allows you to use tabs to open new web pages instead of using a new window. This feature is similar to the one that Netscape offers. However, with the Firefox, you can also open web pages in the background.

If you are trying to download some file, it will be automatically saved to your desktop. If you are using Google search engine for your search needs, you will appreciate the built in Google toolbar. Your Firefox toolbar will also include usual features like bookmarks, history, and text size and is customizable to include additional tools and features. If you would like to have an access to an email client you will need to download the Mozilla Thunderbird mail client software.

You don't have to be a computer professional to install this new browser. The installation and setup are very simple and straightforward and were designed to minimize the amount of work that needs to be done by the user. All your settings will be imported into Firefox. For example, you will see the same favorites as you saw when using Internet Explorer.
